Step-by-Step Guide to Staking SOMI via MetaMask Wallet Connected to the Somnia Staking Dashboard
This guide will take you through the process of staking SOMI using your MetaMask Wallet.
Step 1: Connect Your Wallet
Go to the Somnia Staking Dashboard and click Connect.
Step 2: Choose a Validator
Scroll down to the list of validators. Review their details (such as delegation rate and performance), then click Delegate next to your chosen validator.
Delegation rate shows the percentage of the rewards that a validator shares with delegators (for example, 80% delegation rate means a validator distributes 80% of rewards to delegators and keeps 20% as commission).
Step 3: Enter the Amount
Decide how many SOMI tokens you want to delegate. Enter the amount in the field provided and click Delegate Stake.
Step 4: Confirm the Transaction
Confirm the action in your connected wallet.
Once confirmed, your delegation will be active in the next epoch (~5 minutes).
Step 5: Manage Your Delegations
You can track and adjust your staking activity in the My Delegations section of the dashboard. From there, you can Claim rewards or Undelegate tokens.
Important Staking Details
Rewards: Distributed once per epoch (~5 minutes, about 3,000 blocks).
Unstaking: When delegating to a validator with more than 5M SOMI staked, there is no unbonding period if the delegator chooses to unstake from that validator.

What is SOMI?
SOMI is a native token of the Somnia blockchain.
SOMI operates on a delegated proof-of-stake (dPoS) model and serves three main purposes:
Staking: Users can delegate their SOMI to node providers.
Gas Fees: All gas fees on the Somnia blockchain are paid in SOMI.
Governance: In the future, SOMI holders will be able to participate in decision-making for the network and its components, with exact mechanisms still to be defined.

How Everstake deduces validator fee?
“Validator fee” refers to the rewards received by Validator for participating in the Blockchain network Validation process. Everstake determines the validator fee through a process involving analysis and consideration of various factors, such as network requirements, operational costs, and market dynamics.
Control over User's Funds
Validators don't have control over users' funds in blockchain networks. Instead, they validate transactions and participate in the consensus process based on the rules defined by the network protocol. Users retain control over their funds through private keys, which are used to sign transactions and authorize transfers. Validators' roles involve confirming the validity of transactions and blocks, but they don't have the authority to access or manipulate users' funds.
Rewards Distribution
50% of all gas fees are distributed to validators as rewards. Validators share a portion of these rewards with their delegators by setting a delegation rate – the percentage of rewards allocated to delegators. For example, a delegation rate of 80% means the validator distributes 80% of the rewards to delegators and keeps 20% as commission. Rewards on Somnia are distributed every epoch (~5 minutes).
