Firstly, you need to unlock the secret phrase and back up it. Then, write it down and securely store it. This will be used to restore your wallet in case you lose access to your device. Verify your seed phrase and then click the Confirm button.

6 - xPortal - unlock secret phrase

Your xPortal wallet is now created, and you can start using it to store and manage your cryptocurrencies and stake EGLD.

Top Up Your xPortal Wallet

Before starting to stake, you must send EGLD tokens to your wallet. If you already have a positive balance in your wallet, you can skip this step and move directly to staking. Follow these steps to add funds to your xPortal wallet.

Step 1. Receive EGLD address

To get your wallet address click Receive button. Copy your address (you will send EGLD to this address).

7 - xPortal - Top up your wallet, get address

Step 2. Send the Funds to Your Wallet

Next, head to the CoinGecko website, and buy EGLD tokens from any cryptocurrency exchanges on the list. After the transaction is done, come back to xPortal Wallet.

How To Stake EGLD

Now, let’s get started. The following steps explain how to stake EGLD via xPortal.

Step 1. Go to the Earn Tab

Open the main menu of the xPortal Wallet app on your device. Click on the “Earn” button as shown on the screen. Check all information about staking EGLD and click Stake now.

Step 2. Stake Tokens

Select a Staking Provider from the list of available validators. You can also find Staking Provider manually by searching in a list. After that, check if SP’s delegation cap is not filled and click continue. Choose the amount of EGLD you want to stake and click the Continue button.

9 - xPortal - choose Staking Provider

Confirm the transaction by clicking Stake and wait for it to be processed.

10 - xPortal - stake EGLD

Step 3. See the Transaction Details

Congratulations, you have now successfully staked your EGLD using xPortal! You should now start earning rewards for your contributions to the security and decentralization of MultiversX.

Now you can see how much you staked, claim rewards, and unstake EGLD. If you want to unstake in terms of security, ten epochs are required to unbond the funds. During this period delegator will not receive any rewards.

Slashing

Downtime / poor performance: Validators are jailed (temporarily removed from the active set) and lose a small portion of their rewards, not their main stake.

Double signing (severe offense): Can lead to a portion of the validator’s stake being slashed and permanent jailing (validator banned). Delegators are not directly slashed, but they stop earning rewards while their validator is jailed. If the validator is permanently jailed, delegators must re-delegate to another one.

FAQ

MultiversX Explorers
What is EGLD?

EGLD is the native cryptocurrency of the MultiversX (formerly Elrond) network. It serves several key purposes within the ecosystem:

  • Transaction fees: EGLD is used to pay for sending transactions and executing smart contracts on the MultiversX blockchain.

  • Staking: Users can stake EGLD with validators to secure the network and earn staking rewards.

  • Governance: EGLD holders can participate in certain governance decisions and help shape the future of the network.

  • Value transfer: EGLD can be sent between users as a digital currency and traded on exchanges.

In short, EGLD is both the fuel for the network and a reward mechanism for those who help maintain its security and performance.

MultiversX Tokenomics

The initial supply was set at 20 million EGLD, and the remaining tokens are gradually released through staking rewards and ecosystem incentives. Notably, MultiversX has plans to transit from a fixed-supply model to a tail-inflation model with a burn mechanism, aiming to align token issuance with network usage and demand. This approach is designed to ensure long-term network security and stimulate growth by creating a direct link between network utility and EGLD demand. MultiversX Agora

EGLD serves multiple functions within the MultiversX ecosystem:

  • Staking: Users can stake EGLD to participate in network consensus and earn rewards.

  • Transaction Fees: EGLD is used to pay for transaction fees within the network.

  • Governance: Holders of EGLD can participate in governance decisions affecting the MultiversX ecosystem.

This multifaceted utility positions EGLD as a central component of the MultiversX platform, driving its operations and growth.

How Everstake deduces validator fee?

“Validator fee” refers to the rewards received by Validator for participating in the Blockchain network Validation process. Everstake determines the validator fee through a process involving analysis and consideration of various factors, such as network requirements, operational costs, and market dynamics.

Control over User's Funds

Validators don't have control over users' funds in blockchain networks. Instead, they validate transactions and participate in the consensus process based on the rules defined by the network protocol. Users retain control over their funds through private keys, which are used to sign transactions and authorize transfers. Validators' roles involve confirming the validity of transactions and blocks, but they don't have the authority to access or manipulate users' funds.

Rewards Distribution

In the MultiversX (EGLD) ecosystem, staking rewards are distributed to validators and delegators at the end of each 24-hour epoch. Validators receive rewards based on their performance, including factors like uptime and block production. These rewards are then shared with delegators according to the amount of EGLD they have staked with the validator.

The distribution process involves several steps. First, the total rewards for the epoch are calculated, considering both transaction fees and newly minted tokens. Validators are then allocated a portion of these rewards based on their share of the total active validator set. Afterward, the rewards are distributed to delegators in proportion to their stake in each validator's pool. It's important to note that rewards are not automatically reinvested; delegators must claim them manually. Additionally, there is a 10-day unstaking period if you choose to withdraw your funds.
